Is there any other software other than the 4 you talk about on the website - Retropie, Recalbox, Lakka and PiPlay.

Just wondering as I seem to remember another one a few years ago when the first Raspberry Pi came out but can't recall its name.

Not really. Those 4 listed will be the easiest to get up and running.

Maybe you're thinking of PiMAME, which was the original project that became PiPlay.

There was another on called Raspicade but that project stopped some time ago when the author joined the RecalBox team - you can read about it here - https://sourceforge.net/projects/raspicade/

And sure - you can install Linux on your Raspberry Pi yourself then load up EmulationStation and install all the emulators individually - I guess this is an alternative - but a very long process to undertake.
